I recently faced this same dilemma and spoke to my doctor about it.

She advised me that using tampons when you have a bladder infection is not the best option, especially because bladder infections are caused by bacteria and bacteria does grow on tampons, especially if left in to long.

She said 9 out 10 women actually give the bladder infection to themselves - she went onto explain that there can be bacteria inside the vagina or outside of the rectum and something as simple as wiping the wrong way can spread the bacteria to the urethra which then makes its way up the urinary tract and thus causes the infection. So the same thing can happen with a tampon.

The other thing she mentioned is some women are also more proned to bladder infections, especially if have an inflammatory/autoimmune disease or they are simply not looking after themselves and getting run down because when either occur you body doesnt have the fighting power and strength to fight off the infection.

She advised me that you can't treat bladder infections with just a generic antibiotic, that you need to take a urine sample so they can send it off to the Lab for testing because if you take the wrong antibiotic you can actually end up causing more damage. she said the best time to take the sample was first thing in the morning during the mid stream of urinating.

Apart from going on the right antibiotics, her other advice to me was to drink lots and lots of water to flush your system out and if you can handle drinking cranberry juice drink that as well as it decreases the acidity in the Urine and helps to prevent future infections and in addition to that also drink several times a day a drink called "Ural" which is Urinary Alkalinizer like Cranberry Juice it decreases the acidity in the Urine and is made specifically for that reason and it makes it less painful when urinating.

Hope your infection clears up soon as it really is the pits when you have one. Good luck
Cheers Angelheart

No. When you have a bladder infection it is caused by a bacteria. Having something inside of you for hours that could hold bacteria is not a good idea, especially if it hurts when you pee. I would wear pads until it is gone.

It fine as the bladder and vagina are not connected. Drink lots of water and cranberry to help that infection

No i don't think that would be safe. I'd just go with the pad for know until it clears and then go back to using tampons if you want. good luck and god bless.

I would think so. Your bladder doesn't have anything to do with your menstrual cycle.
