ANALYSIS : WAHHABISM
For more than two centuries, Wahhabism has been Saudi Arabia's dominant faith. It is an austere form of Islam that insists on a literal interpretation of the Koran. Strict Wahhabis believe that all those who don't practice their form of Islam are heathens and enemies. Critics say that Wahhabism's rigidity has led it to misinterpret and distort Islam, pointing to extremists such as Osama bin Laden and the Taliban. Wahhabism's explosive growth began in the 1970s when Saudi charities started funding Wahhabi schools (madrassas) and mosques from Islamabad to Culver City, California.

Considering that bin Laden as well as 15 of the 19 hijackers on 9-11 were Sauds, it does seem odd that we chose the most secular, least dangerous regime in the Middle East to bomb into oblivion.

Also consider the Sauds, following the 9-11 attacks, refused us access to investigate in their country -- telling the FBI to let them investigate and trust them to let us know if they found anything out.

But Bushes jr. and sr. can still be seen hugging, kissing and walking hand-in-hand with the Saudi Royal family on a weekly basis.

Hmmm. Might all be about oil after all...

And thanks to our mindless @ss-kissing to Saudi Arabia, Wahhabism continues to flourish.

Yep, that's American right-wingers for you. Support one of the most oppressive, antiquated, medieval regimes in the world!

You realize that Saudi has been fighting a rather nasty war with AQ?

Besides - the paragraph you quoted does not even come close to describing the situation.

no matter how you try to explain it, yes we most certainly invaded the wrong country. But Geography wasn't Georgie's strong suit, "you know, Iraqistan, Iranistan whatever, just as long as we don't attack our buddies in Saudi Arabialand".

it's a bit late to lament that iraq is some class of faux pas and your 'wrong country' reference indicates you haven't quite gotten the invasion thing out of your system. good luck with your next victim in any event...
