i have a 7 and a half month old daughter who has what seems to be a pretty bad diaper rash. i didnt even notice it till early this morning when she would not sleep (it seemed to be bothering her pretty bad) i was unsure of why she would not sleep so i did the commen sence things... rocked her, fed her, changed her. but when i changed her i notice she had pooped, and while i was wiping her she started screaming so i stopped. i wiped again and her legs started shaking and she started screaming again. thats when i realized she had a terrible diaper rash. the only diaper rash cream that i have is "Butt Paste." it is very easy to come off so i didnt wanna put that on her because it would not give much protection. so i put her old yeast infection cream on her hoping that would hold over till morning. now i am uncertain as to what to use. should i stick to the butt paste? even though as soon as the diaper touches it it wipes off? is there any really good creams? please give some advice!!

My daughter had bad diaper rash and I just used desitin and it worked really well. I read that if you put a good amount on like at night or when the baby might be in the diaper for long periods of time it works wonders.!

I swear by Penaten Cream has never let me down ever. I loaded up on it when I would baby sit and even more so now that I have a son
Zincofax, Zinaderm, Desitin Diaper Rash Ointment, Prevex-Baby Diaper Rash Cream are all good too Ive heard
Call your doctor if
The diaper rash occurs in the first six weeks of life
Pimples and small ulcers form
Your baby has a fever
Your baby loses weight or isn't eating as well as usual
Large bumps or nodules appear
The rash spreads to other areas, such as the arms, face or scalp
The rash doesn't get better after one week

if the yeast infection cream is helping then stick to that. As for the diaper cream medicine sticking to the diaper i always put a little baby powder or corn starch on the diaper so that the cream doesn't stick to it. I don't like the butt paste because its too thin but i love desitin. you can also try using a hair dryer on a low cool setting to make sure her skin is really dry before putting on the cream. you can also use a thin layer of Vaseline to protect her skin.
But I've found the best thing to keep diaper rash cream from sticking to the diaper and coming off immediately is the baby powder or corn starch in the diaper! Good Luck and i hope your little one feels better soon!

Until the rash heals, don't wipe her anymore. Just give her a sponge bath and put in her a shallow amount of water to get the poo off and then let her air-dry on a blanket for 10-15 minutes. The air will help tremendously. With my daughter I tried every cream and nursery gel aka Vaseline worked the best for her diaper rash. It's cheap, you can use a lot, and it stays on the skin and is a good barrier for when she poos or pees again. Use pure cornstarch baby powder and change her diaper often.

Magic Butt Cream...BEST stuff ever! We used to get it as a prescription until I came across the recipe. Here it is.
1/2 tube A&D
1/2 tube zinc oxide cream (we used the A&D zinc oxide cream)
1 T bacitracin ointment
1 T liquid Maalox
~~~~~~~
Here are a couple of tips: Keep it in an air tight lid - screw on is easier to use than pop tops since you're not going to get it into a mfg type of tube.
Try to mix it in the same container you're going to store it in - the petroleum base is difficult to clean.
We used the 4 oz tubes so it makes just over 4 ounces of cream (remember only half the tube goes in)
You might need to shake it before you use it sometimes
Also, my son has incredibly sensitive skin and we've found the Pampers Sensitive to be the softest wipes we can find.
Desitin is the best. It will clear up a diaper rash in a few hours, doesn't smell really weird, and won't wipe off with the diaper.
My son and daughter were both prone to bad diaper rashes (they both have super sensitive skin) And one of the few things that helped was aloe vera, you know like the stuff for bad sunburns, It soaks into the skin and helps heal it. Also Desitin is really good, its thick and stays on pretty well. when my kiddos got super bad diaper rashes I would alternate Desitin and Aloe. It always worked.
My best advice is to keep her diaper free the whole time you are at home...keep the house warm and let her have no diaper on....it clears up much faster as her skin can breathe..as you are in the US I cant advise on creams as we have different brands in the UK....but I think that cream free and diaper free is the best...my baby had a bad case and I left her diaper off and it was better the next day.
Best think I ever used and it cleared up boths of my kids' diaper rash up within two days was to take equal amounts of A&D ointment and Malox and mix it. It will be soupy but the oinment protects it while the Malox takes away the burn. I know it sounds weird but trust me it works!
