Im a tad bit homophobic and during winter break I am going to Hawaii with my family to visit my step-mothers mom and life partner. I feel uncomfortable around gays and lesbians. I know Im going to act weird and the lesbians will be able to tell. How should I act infront of the lesbians?

Aloha!
They're just people. Explain that you're not used to being around lesbian lifers and that you feel a bit uncomfortable. I'm sure they'll understand and do everything they can to help you deal with your homophobia problem. Obviously your step-mom has confidence that you can deal with this.

Good Luck.

You need to act yourself. You cant pretend something you dont feel... others will pick up on it and then ALL of you will be uncomfortable. Honesty is always the best policy in my book. If youre feeling a "tad bit homophobic" just tell them so.. in private of course and let them know its not PERSONAL. I think if you would do a little research... educate yourself on the subject.. realize that gays and lesbians are just people.. just like you.. living and working and raising families everyday.. you might become LESS homophobic. Education is a wonderful thing. Its not too late to nip this in the bud and you might find youve made some fabulous new friends in the bargain. .

You have every right to be homophobic because it is not natural. Sex only has power when it is used correctly and it offers you a life in its use. No other version of this act offers you anything b te right way and that is between a man and a woman. The idea of marrage that man has put the image of on it is wrong, It is not a dress or a ring of gold, but the joinning of your flesh, your DNA and their DNA into one new life. The marrage of life and not the marrage of image by laws made by men. So your mothers mother is is pittifully misgiuded and waisting her life and powers of life. Ask her questions and when she asks you what you think, then just tell her.

I applaud you for being honest. Trust when I say, they have already gone through many scenarios about you coming there and being uncomfortable. They will try so hard to make you comfortable. Just give them the chance. That is all that all gay people want. A chance to be accepted.

"How should I act in front of the lesbians?"
-As you should act in front of any other person. I am sorry you feel uncomfortable around gays and lesbians. I am uncomfortable around clowns, I still maintain composure and act like a normal person.

I'm sure if you feel this way then your moms know it.
Just dont try to treat them different because they're gay. Treat normally. And if they have some friends over that are gay, then just be cool. If someone say...tries to hit on you, just laugh it off but let them know that you like men. Just be cool about it and have an open mind.

Just act normal. Just because a person is gay or lesbian, does not mean they want to jump you, and make mad passionate love to you. As a gay guy, I don't want to be with any of the guys I work with. I have my preferences, and until I find him, I'm not going after just anybody. We just want you to be normal around us!

Well if you're going to visit your relatieve and her life partner, I can assure you no one will be hitting on you there.

Just be friendly and act like you'd act around your friends back home.

Well, you should should restrict your conversation to Ellen DeGeneres and Mary Cheney. Us gay folks only like talking about other gay folks. You did get them strap-ons for Christmas, rgiht? Good, never can have too many of those. Also, they will really appreciate it if you ask about their sex life, ya' know: what they do, how they do it. They will be charmed and delighted if you ask to watch them at it.

Geesh!

You should stick forks in your legs between courses at dinner and pray to the Lord to cure your homophobia while the pain focuses your mind clearly.
