Newspaper reports in Oakland have surfaced detailing an impromtu meeting between Al Davis and John Madden. Inside sources confirmed that Davis is still impressed with Madden's expert knowledge of the NFL and offered him the head coaching job. Apparently the nostalgic Al Davis still cherishes the glory years of Madden's first stint with the Raiders.

Conflicting reports have since surfaced. Apparently there would be a conflict of interest if Madden takes the Raiders job. In the off season Madden has a side job modeling boat covers, circus tents, and building awnings. This modeling venture actually produces more revenue than his broadcasting career and his video game combined. When asked what he thought about the Raider's job offer, Madden responded by saying "Boom!".

BS - can't happen. I can believe that senile Al Davis would approach him; but the fact alone that Madden won't fly eliminates him from consideration. Plus the guy is almost 70 and looks like he is going to die during a broadcast. He couldn't make it through an NFL season.

Al Davis also demanded that Madden call him Mr. Commissioner and Al reportedly kept excitedly talking about how the AFL was going to bring the NFL to its knees with a bidding war for players, if only that scheming Lamar Hunt would quit undermining him by talking with Pete Rozelle.

JM gets to sit in a nice warm booth for 3 hours and talk rubbish about football. Would he swap that with standing freezing in the middle of Soldier Field in December trying to get 33 not-very-good players in a winning frame of mind, I think not.
