I cannot believe someone I have been going out with, told me he only likes foreign women. This means he sees me as the stereotypical foreign woman. I did not take that very well at all. I look at him differently for that comment and even decided not take him to my company's Christmas party...and pretty much not see any potential in him. There is nothing wrong with the stereotypical foreign wife, but I'm definitely not one of them, and I don't see any compatibility with someone who wants that.
What's the definition? And have you ever been called one? LOL

I'm familiar with American/his culture and he knows that very well. Also, it did not come up in the context of physical appearance.

Steve: umm...nice psychological cleanup LOL I'm sure he appreciates the support, but naw...there is more to it than that...for someone to specifically seek out to foreign women...I translate that as his possible inability to handle a regular woman.

The Planet: I think you may be right.
I didn't mean to make this about him, I just want to know the stereotypical definition.

If he's got other great qualities so far, I'd give him a chance to qualify his remark. If not, see it as the red flag it probably is. You seem like more of a "big picture" thinker than most western women, & seem to appreciate men for what they are, so he might have stupidly associated that with being an asian/russian bride-type, when it certainly isn't necessarily.
Now, more to your question. There are 2 main benefits of western women, they're more fun/intelligent & can be more of a friend than non-western women. Most other aspects of most western women are negatives. They're conflicted about their own needs & don't know it, they want to have their cake and eat it too, they're unappreciative, and generally want men to be at least somewhat ashamed for being a man (selfish, uncivilized, wishing for Pamela Anderson).

If it did not come up in the context of looks and you looking exotic to the American eye, then he is seeing you as the stereotypical foreign woman who will be submissive and traditional after marriage or within a serious committed relationship. He's seeing what he wants to see and hasn't taken the time to actually get to know you as an individual. Even making a statement like "he ONLY likes foreign women" is very different from saying that "he likes foreign women" because it shows he can be blanket prejudice against whole groups.

"Stereotypical" definition? Could it be a person with notably different physical features than those native from one's own country have. A common example is a tourist. Most of the times, one can figure out if a person is a tourist by the accent or the aspect. Here where I live, a natural blue-eyed blonde/green-eyed redhead woman would be considered foreign.

Well...as a 40 something white male who's lived in the US his whole life and never traveled outside the US, I've never been called foreign, or a foreign wife/woman.
As for the definition, it's pretty much referring to any nationality/race not commonly accepted as being one of the predominant races in the US - so, caucasian and african american are domestic, but pretty much everything else - latino, asian, indian subcontinent - is "foreign". Oh, and as part of our white american prejudices, we don't put native americans in either category.
Thankfully, not everyone who's white thinks like that. I'm Jewish, so I'm used to being the odd person out, since we've got a history of persecution and alienation that goes back to the old Testament.

I think it depends on where you are. When I've been to Germany, technically I am a foreigner because I grew up in a different culture. However, I'm not really a foreigner because my ancestry is mostly German and I really don't look any different from the people there. I blend right in because of my appearance.

Foreign means when you were born outside the country you live in now. I'm an american born Iranian but people usually think I'm foreign just because I don't have that "all american" look. But it doesn't really bother me although it can cause unfair disadvantages for me. I think one reason some/many men in the U.S find foreign women more appealing is because most american women aren't suitable for marriage.
Women here don't adhere to their husbands like they should. Although there are good and bad people everywhere the difference is in percentage. But tha same can be said for american men. And with the U.S having one of the highest divorce rates this can be proven.

Perhaps an American man might find a foreign born lady to be attractive because of being (from his standpoint) exotic, different, interesting, multilingual, and worldly (in the positive sense of the word).
Those are all possibilities that don't necessarily have a negative connotation.
EDIT:
Well, just tryin to help a brotha out. LOL
Seriously, sometimes there is just something. And it can be good a thing.

What I find appealing about foreign women at first is their different style, and then its the accent and its always intersting talking to someone who has been brought up in a country different from yours. I am a sucker for European women.

A lot of Americans (women too) seem to be intrigued by people who are foreign. Some of my guy friends get annoyed because whenever there's some Irish guy in an American bar, he'll get all the attention from the ladies just because of his accent. It doesn't matter how drunk or sloppy he is either. lol!
