My first was REALLY early like walking unassisted by 7 months. My 2nd was 10 months 3rd took her first steps alone on her 1st birthday and 4th was like 15-16months. I totally babied her and we were on the road alot taking the others to preschool and dance and playgroups and stuff and I didn't try to get her walking until I found out I was pregnant again. It all depends on how much you "try" to teach them. If you put them down and give them a chance it will be early probably, but if you carry them everywhere and baby them then expect late. Neither are wrong, it just slows down the ability to learn if you can't practice.

I had one son take first steps alone at 8 months, but that doesn't count as walking. He did it confidently at 10 months. I had another child not take a single step until 13 months and she turned out to be the fastest runner. It doesn't mean much really. Doctors only worry if they aren't walking at 18 months.

Girls walk, talk and develop faster than boys early on. Mine was 8 months when we saw her take her first steps. My boys were 1 year to 18 months before they began taking their first steps. I must confess that I spent MORE time with my daughter so I was the motivator. I did not spend much time with my boys because I was working two jobs to make ends meet. How much time are you spending with your child?

My daughter started walking around the furniture around 10 months but wouldn't let go and start running down the hall until she was 14 months.

My son walked early at about 7 - 7 1/2 months. He was full fledged running at 10 months and my life has never been the same since. :)

I don't have a child yet, but my nephew started walking between 10 and 11 months. He's been trying to walk well before that, but he just recently has been able to do it on his own.
