LOL...sorry. I'm only laughing because somebody came on here yesterday saying something about a black hole in 2012. (Something new.) I said, "What will it be tomorrow?" And you said you heard that time will stop. Well, there's my answer!

The original claim was that the earth and sun will align with the galactic center. Well, this isn't true. The earth and the sun come within about 6 degrees of aligning with the galactic center near the solstice *every* year. 2012 will be no different from this year or any other. Even if such an alignment took place, so what? There is no possible effect that it could have on the earth. We have had many unusual alignments and nothing happened. One of the most famous ones was the Jupiter Effect, predicted for March 10, 1982. Just like this myth, it had a book, many articles, and throngs of doomsday-ers flapping their jaws. All sorts of catastrophes were predicted. Nothing happened. It was an unusual arrangement of planets, but nothing like an alignment. So they made much over nothing, just like this.

We understand the forces of nature. We have an extremely well developed knowledge of how the earth is effected by these forces and what causes them. There is no scientific basis for this 2012 nonsense. It was just somebody's way of making some cheap bucks by producing a bogus documentary and misleading a lot of people who still believe that some TV networks are legitimate sources of information. Fox, the History channel, and the Discovery channel are probably the worst.

Oh, and for hitting the center of the galaxy. That's over 20,000 light years away. IOW, if we were traveling at the speed of light, (and we're not), it would take over 20,000 years to get there. Need I say more?

Is it possible that on 2012 the Earth and civilization as we know it today could come to an end? Yes it is possible we could be hit by matter from space, however it is not very probable. The Indians that came up with this date at the time had methods of tracking time better then any other people in the world. If you read about these very bright people you will see that they were not saying that the world would come to an end. What they claimed was that the world would be made over after certain lengths of time. I would not loose any sleep because of this date. However it might be a great excuse the night before to have a great party.

There is no way to scientifically prove that something "will not happen". If we accept that there is no way to exceed the speed of light, then we won't be able to get anywhere close to the center of the galaxy, which is about 26000 light-years away, in 5 years.
Even if we got there, why would time stop? We're still being scientific here, right? So what is so special about us and the center of the galaxy that will stop time? If we collide with the black hole that is theorized to be there, we would be destroyed, and time would stop for us, but the universe would go on.

Who's "they?" Certainly not anybody with even a little scientific knowledge.

In 2012 our sun will be aligned with the plane of the galactic equator, something that's happened over and over again through the sun's history. Obviously no catastrophes happened. All those "they" that you mention claim that the world will end in 2012, but if you check closely you'll not find any reference to any scientific cause for such a catastrophe. That's because there are none.

No, because there is absolutely no scientific evidence that _anything_ out of the ordinary will happen in 2012. We will definitely not "hit dead center of galaxy" what ever than means!

Well of course 2012 will happen. So will 2011 and 2013. Years happen. But there will be no world wide catastrophe or big change or anything. That is just a bunch of pseudo scientific, astrological nonsense, kind of like the harmonic convergence of 1987.

I easily have seen and commented in this text till now, whether it somewhat is a sparkling case of an author throwing in some medical-sounding phrases to make it sound achieveable, yet surely he does not know what he's speaking approximately. as an occasion, human beings would be inspired by ability of the belief of a "barycentric sleeve" yet surely there's no such difficulty. additionally, Jupiter and Saturn conjunctions ensue each and every 2 a protracted time. The solar's cycle peaks each and every 11 years. Are they appropriate? of path no longer. maximum ridiculous of all is the theory that we are going to be bursting in the process the considered necessary airplane of the galaxy, on no account having till now been waiting to work out the different component. organic nonsense!

As far as the solar system falling into the center of the galaxy.... if that were to hapen in a single year; the eath and the solar system would be the fastest known objects in the universe, traveling well beyand lightspeed to the 100th power.

Hit dead center of the galaxy? We've been traveling around the edge of it for a few BILLION years, and now all of a sudden we're going to zoom to the center in 5 years? It's so rediculous and far fetched, I can't even comment.....

Was your question we'll hit the centre of OUR galaxy or another? The interplanetary distances are huge! and interstellar distances are a million times bigger than that. Even if we were to merge with another galaxy the chance of us hitting another planet is slim.
