Einstein used to joke about the Copenhagen interpretation of the Heisenberg Uncertainty Principle by saying, "Does that mean that the moon doesn't exist unless you look at it?" -- or words to that effect.
But this is not really what you're asking since you are smarter than the average bear. I just can't think of a good humorous retort at the moment.

Yes there is a moon. Look out on a clear day and sometimes you can see both the moon and the sun out at the same time. It's actually really cool.

Yes, I saw the Moon and Sun in the sky at the same time yesterday. You can see that this afternoon too.

I believe in the moon, if it were actually the sun astronauts would not be able to stand or even get near the moon because of excessive heat.

The moon is a known object that occupies space with an orbit that revolves around the earth and does not emit light. The moon rotates 1 turn per cycle (due to much heavyer rock gathered unevenly to its one side, the heavyer or denser side constantly faces the earth).

The lunatic is on the grass.
The lunatic is on the grass.
Remembering games and daisy chains and laughs.
Got to keep the loonies on the path.
The lunatic is in the hall.
The lunatics are in my hall.
The paper holds their folded faces to the floor
And every day the paper boy brings more.
And if the dam breaks open many years too soon
And if there is no room upon the hill
And if your head explodes with dark forebodings too
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
The lunatic is in my head.
The lunatic is in my head
You raise the blade, you make the change
You re-arrange me 'til I'm sane.
You lock the door
And throw away the key
There's someone in my head but it's not me.
And if the cloud bursts, thunder in your ear
You shout and no one seems to hear.
And if the band you're in starts playing different tunes
I'll see you on the dark side of the moon.
"I can't think of anything to say except...
I think it's marvelous! HaHaHa!"

How can it be the "back" of the sun, when you can see them both in the sky at the same time?

I don't have to believe in the moon, it just IS. It exists whether I believe in it or not. It existed before me, and it will continue to exist after I'm gone.
