sometimes the results just come back inconclusive and they have to re test. I know it will be hard, but just try to relax and enjoy the rest of your vacation. Try not to worry, it won't help. GOOD LUCK!

It might have been the results from her PAP test, and they might have found some abnormal cells. If she goes every year, this isn't usually a concern. It could have been a false positive (I've had that happen, on further tests they found nothing.) Or, if it is something, it is very easily treated. It generally takes a long time for cervical cancer to develop. Any abnormal spots, or lesions, can be removed by different methods which aren't really even very painful. If the latter is the case, she'll just have to go to the doc more often to make sure every thing is ok. With the treatments nowadays, cervical cancer is almost NEVER fatal, nor do the lesions even develop into cancer (they are treated as soon as they are found, while they are precancerous.) That's my guess because I've gotten that call, too. Just a guess, though. I know it's easier said than done, but enjoy you're vacation. I'm sure that whatever it is can be taken care of when you get back, or they would have told her otherwise. :)

An Annual exam examines a few things-
-They may check for STDs
- Overall health
-Unusual cells on the cervix (this is the pap smear)
-Possible pregnancy
-A breast exam for lumps
If they called she may have had an abnormal pap smear or STD. You stated you are not worried about STDs, and if you all have been using a viable form of contraception pregnancy may not be the concern so. . .
Abnormal pap smear means just that. It's abnormal. IT IS NOT A CANCER DIAGNOSIS. Abnormal pap smears may happen if it was close to her period or you two recently had sex before her exam. She will probably get called back to do another one.
If this one is also abnormal they may call her back to take a larger sample of cells to see if they are indicative of HPV. Even if she is positive for HPV it may not be one at high risk for cervical cancer. It may be low risk or medium risk. She can then get the cells removed if she wants, or wait to see if after year or so it passes.
Of course it may be something even simpler like they lost the results and she needs to get another one.

Normally my dr's office sends a postcard saying everything is fine. Well, the last time they called and left a message on my answering machine on a Friday afternoon asking me to call the office about my pap results. By the time I got the message the office was closed and I freaked the entire weekend about what could be wrong. I called Monday morning and they said... "we just wanted to let you know that everything is fine and come back in a year for the next exam." ARGGG!!! Why couldn't they just say that in the message?
Anyway, in the past I was told that the results came back a little odd and they asked me to come back in for a recheck. Of course I was worried, especially since I'd just gotten news that I had 4 skin cancer biopsies come back bad. The second pap came back fine. Hopefully it's something as simple as that.
Hang in there and enjoy your vacation!

She might have dysplasia (pre cervical cancer). If they said it could wait, I would not worry. If it is, they will do a biopsy to see what level it is, then either do surgery where they cut a piece of the cervix out or freeze the cervix to kill the cancerous cells. All of it is painful. Just take care of her no matter what it is.

they check for cervical cancer and chlamydia in the yearly exams. Alot of women just have abnormal cells on their cervix, and they have to have a procedure to get them removed. Don't worry until you go to the doc and find out what they say, until then, enjoy your vacation!

Same thing happened to me. My doctor's office called and said my pap results were "abnormal". This freaked me out because my mom had ovarian cancer at my age. So, I went back in for another pap and it came back normal.

Could be abnormal cells in her pap smear that need to be watched so they won't turn into cancer....or an abnormal lump in her breast from a mammogram that needs further testing to rule out cancer..
