Do you think it would make a difference if parents were held accountable for their young , teenage daughters (let's say 16 and under) getting pregnant?

Do you think if the threat of civil or criminal punishment were hanging over the parents heads, they would be more active in trying to help prevent this and talking more with their children about safe sex and teenage parenting? Or are our kids just out of our reach?

for me i think it all comes about love
these kids dont have love comming
from parents cause now a days there is so
many single mothers and they have to
work so there is no time to be with thier
children, so these kids grow up missing that love
and affection, so they look for it in these men that
just take advantae of them, and well there goes teenage pregnancy. of course this is only my point of view, and not
all cases are the same. ................... solitaire

No how can you stop your 16 year old from having sex if that's what they want to do? I guess as a parent you could chain them to a bed at night. No matter how much you preach & talk some kids are going to still have sex. Yes parents should be active in talking & preaching about sex but this is not a gurantee that they wont get pregnant. So if a parent does there job by doing this & there 16 yr old gets pregnant then the parents have to get punished??

I had a very protective set of parents My curfew was 12:00am and I wasn't allowed to date until I was 16. Of course my parents never really talked to me about sex or how to prevent getting pregnant. But what happened to Jamie Lynn which is why (I'm guessing) that this question came up, could just have easily happened to me. I don't mean to generalize but most kids are experimenting with sex at right around the same age as she is, even nearly 27 years ago. I was not a bad girl, I liked the attention. I wasn't at all ugly, so I didn't have a bad self esteem problem. It's all raging hormones. Kids are going to play around whether the threat of mom and dad going to jail or having a huge fine imposed on them is in place or not. Yes Parents should be more active in the education of their kids but not to the point of prosecution.

NO. You can take a horse to water, but you cant make the drink. In this instance, that would mean. You can raise a child with a pair of the most responsible parents, however, those parents will not be with that child every single moment of every day. That child should be accountable for his/her decisions, and would know from the way they were raised: there are consequences to bad decisions. Kids are not out of reach--they need a foundation laid by responsible parents who are not afraid to tell them the truth about things.

i think not for the simple fact that you can tell your child to be safe and have the so called "sex talk" until you are blue in the face, if you get in trouble for their actions or not. I feel that they will do what they want anyways..... you do get lucky and have children with good morals and values. (im not saying that alot of them dont) I mean even if you do raise them that way you cant keep them sheltered their whole life and tell them what to do forever. if you try to control they will rebel.

On the other hand not all parents are raising their children with good high morals and values and they let them do what they want when they want how they want. I find it unfair that if and when they do get preg. thay if they dont want them they get rid of the child like its no big deal. Yes they will have a better home but they are with out their natural mother.

I guess what im saying is they will eventualy grow up and do what they want and you really cant stop them. if you cut them off from all humanity they will go crazy and when they get out their they want to do it all at once. Even if they (the parents get in trouble for it or not). It was not the parents choice for their child to get preg. their daughter did it to herself. It was her desicion to spread her legs and no use protection not the mom or dads or their leagal guardians

It would SOOO make a difference, I don't know why it's not the parents fault. I am VERY sensitive on this issue, i hope it doesn't come back to bite me...but i plan to handle my children VERY early on...better safe than sorry. And when people say 'I was on the pill'' I want to reach over and CHOKE them.....follow the directions idiot!!!! They DO work!!!

I dont think its totally the parents falt. They should be teaching their kids early to hold out on sex and what could happen if you dont. They need to watch their kids on where they go, what they do and who they're with. After that it is the kids responsibility to learn from what their parents say, or learn from mistakes they're going to make.

It's possible. But consider that parents are already responsible for the destruction that their children cause, which doesn't completely stop destruction. It might curb it a bit, though.
