To many KIDS are getting married these day without the slightest idea of the responsiblity that comes with it. Once they find out it's not all fun and games they choose divorce. As parents we should sit down with our kids more often and make sure they understand marriage before allowing them to just take the plunge. Explain to them the ups and downs and that they need to work together as a couple on issues that may arrise.

Only for people who work for long term pleasure versus short term gratification.
Marriage is a growth phenomenon. Like growing a fruit tree from a seed, the benefits take time to produce.
.... Some trees can be pretty knarly growing up but the fruit they produce is still pretty sweet.

Well, my husband and I have been married for over 17 years. It would be better if there were some required classes in communication and anger management and cooperation for most couples before they tied the knot.
You do need to accept the person as someone you are bonding to just like a blood relative - so you will take them faults and all and work out problems if and when they occur. Then you have to refuse to let yourself trash on them to your friends or get angry about something that never bothered you before - you are responsible for your reactions and people who allow themselves to start reacting badly to regular everyday things are responsible for their own dis-satisfaction with their spouse. We all get grumpy and tense, but we do not need to take this out on our spouse or on our feelings for our spouse - which lots of people tend to do. When you are angry, leave your spouse out of it - deal with your anger issues on your own, even if you need to ask them to let you sulk something out. If they are not to blame, do not bring them into it as the fall guy. Keep a positive view of your spouse - they are still the person who made you giddy once upon a time.

Sure they do....I'll be married 2 yrs in January. Besides, it's not really about how long you're married in my opinion. My parents were married very unhappily for 21 yrs. At least (right now) I can say I'm very happy in my marriage. Hopefully it stays that way :)

Of course. I married my best friend and we have been married for almost 8 years.
But I do think that many people marry for the wrong reasons which results in many failed marriages.
