Store. I dislike trusting any online orders because of online hackers. I just prefer to play it safe. However, if I must order online, I go to my bank and pay for a Visa Gift Card. I can use it just like a normal credit card and it wont matter if someone steals the number on it because it is basically a throw away credit card. I know in advance the amount I need and only get it for exactly the right amount.

Store.

To me, there's nothing like walking around... and seeing the lights, people, feeling the chill.. and enjoying Manhattan and NYC around this time. I stay clear of malls, too.. (since we don't really need them, here.) But, Macy's has to be on the list.. and a visit to Santaland, of course.

Online can supplement the list.. but there's a nasty secret with online buying.. and it's "inventory". A shop may not EVER have carried an item.. that you're picking/choosing on-line, and may in fact only order it, for you via a middle-man company (like a toy distributor or a clothes or electronics reseller). You're paying for nothing, and will be met with a message about "not in inventory" frustratingly afterward, even if they had 200 in stock, but actually sold/rang-up 3,000 before Dec. 1st. Online buying is convenient -- but, when you're in a store.. you buy what's THERE and can see, feel it and walk out with it.. that's saying something, when it comes to wanting to wrap an actual present, and not giving someone a print out of what's "in the mail"?

Probably an equal amount of both. We start shopping in January and put things in the "gift box" in the basement (it looks like all the other storage boxes, so the kids don't know it's there). We hit all the best sales at the stores and on-line all year long.

I haven't done any yet, but I can't do any online. No plastic. My only card, I've turned off so I don't use it. I'll be hitting the stores Friday or Saturday.

Almost all of it online. It's so convenient. No lines. Just need to make sure I deal with reputable sellers.
