I'm a poor business owner and I have given jobs to people but I know I'm one in a million. I don't care about making money. I'm in the last years of my life and I don't want to deal with the government any more than I have to. I was in the military so ALL of my health care is provided. As long as the people that work for me are making money, it's all I care about. I teen at McDonald's makes more than I do and I like it that way.

No one has ever "given" me a job. Any job I ever had, even on an internship basis, was engaged because the firm doing the hiring NEEDED the labor. That's why people who sell their labor get PAID for doing so. Without pay, they wouldn't show up.

Employment is not a philanthropic effort. It is done solely because the firm NEEDS the labor, just as the firm NEEDS other inputs like machinery, energy, paper supplies, etc.

You'll never get anywhere if you keep thinking of having a job as some sort of "favor" done for you.

A poor person like the elderly widow with nothing but social security who needed her walk shoveled?

A poor person like the disabled man who needed food brought to his house or a ride to the doctor?

A poor person like the single working mother who spends every dime on food, clothes and care for her children, but can't afford to fix her leaky roof?

It seems that poor people are the source of lots of jobs, that people should be happy to take, except for the people here answering this questions with their ugly, disgusting answers. Just remember, Karma's a bi...

No. But poor people spend what money they have for food, shelter, transportation etc. just like everyone else and this money goes into to the economy, therefore helping to provide jobs. What exactly is the point this question anyway?

Mowed lawns, raked leaves, shoveled snow, picked up groceries as a kid usually for the elderly poor. Sometimes for pay, sometimes because it was the right thing to do.

Yes. Though they were poor, I was poorer.

As a kid I picked rocks out of fields, fixed fence, cleaned livestock barns, stacked bales, and many other tasks for poor farmers. The farmers worked hard and were quite productive (you all had food didn't you?) but many still needed welfare to get by, my family included.
