can anyone give me two ideas on how a community could reduce the amount of earthquake damage that might occur in the future?

The first thing they would have to do is build buildings that are more able to withstand the shaking forces.

Make sure that they build on solid bedrock and not unconsolidated soils.

You can research some of the things that California and Japan have done to make their buildings more stable.
