There are a couple of different RAM memory systems. One is the system RAM and you can buy and install additional RAM chips (specific to your computer).

The other is video RAM which is on your video card (or motherboard if it's built in). Sometimes you can expand your video card memory, sometimes you can't and you have to buy another (better) video card.

From your description sounds like you need a better video card - many games require at least 256MB of video RAM.

It would seem you are mixing up two different things. If you delete temporary files you are freeing space on your hard disc. If you have only 1256 MB free you could not run very much. If you tried to install a program it was saying that for that particular program you needed at least 256MB of RAM (that is physical memory). Is your computer quite old?

I think you're getting confused between RAM and hard drive space. Temporary internet files are stored on your hard drive rather than within your RAM. If you want more space to store files (such as temporary internet files as well as software etc.) You'll need to buy a new, higher capacity drive. If you want more RAM (and you really would be better off with more than 256Mb!) then you simply buy more Ram which is easy to install in both desktops and laptops.
If you're not sure how to do these things you can pay a friendly chap or chapesse at PC world to do everything for you!

Perhaps youre confused with hard drive space versus memory size. Looks like you have about 1 1/4 gigs of hard drive space but probably only 128 MBs of ram. You need to buy more ram. Go here and see what your upgrade options are--click in "scan my system"

You have enough hard drive space for the game but not enough physical memory and clearing temp internet files isn't going to help that.

These are two different things. Clearing cache recovers hard disk space but RAM is to run programs actively. It appears that you jnaven't sufficient RTAM installed to be able to install and run whatever program or application you desire to put on your computer.

You can try closing unwanted running applications or you can look at adding RAM to your computer.

You can see if your computer can handle more RAM by going to Crucial.com and running a scan.

It's important to note that everything takes RAM. Not only security products (such as active anti-spyware, anti-virus and firewall) eat up memory but your operating system, active browser windows, running applications (such as Word, Gaming, Messenger, Photoshop, etc), graphic card and malware all compete for system resources. The presence of Malware (viruses, spyware, etc) will particularly eat up your system resources so you may want to run your resident security products such as antispyware and antivirus applications to ensure that your system is clean.

There are two types of memory; ordinary memory (RAM) and storage (your Hard Disk space). 1256MB (=1.2 GB ) sounds like it's your Hard drive and your RAM it would seem is less than 256MB (probably 128MB). Things are stored on the hard drive until they are ready to be used by the processor and then they are placed in RAM memory
