No to having a ceremony now and party later. Have a wedding on one day. Plan what you can afford now. Ceremony with family and friends, then just a nice dinner for everyone. Great celebration, low cost, but you get the deed done! If you WANT marriage, then the way you get married doesn't matter. Hope you aren't letting the 'fairytale' get in the way of whether the two of you want to be married, not just thinking of the wedding.

3rd date??
Firstl I'd think "Control freakkk!!!!"
Secondly I probably would be very uincomfortable with the idea (most women are very fussy about the shape/size/cut/colour/etc of an outfit that blokes don't have a clue about) For example - a lot of women cringe at the idea of sequins, (I personally don't like looking like an Xmas tree)shiny things accentuate any unslightly lumpy/fat bits, the light colour isn't always flattering, the open back bit would require a special bra or it would show, & some women don't like V-necks.
The dress itself isn't bad, & recieving it as a gift from my 3rd time date would be a tad weird but nice, but him asking me to wear it??? I'd probably run a mile. I can choose my own clothes thankyou very much.

It depends on how you asked. At first thought I would think you were a bit controlling. But if you invited me and I said yes, then you gave me the dress the day before the party as a gift. Id probably wear it that night. But you should just give it to her as a gift, dont tell her you want her to wear it to the party, might seem controlling.

I'd say "I'll come to the party but I'm wearing what I want to".
It's way too controlling when a guy buys you something to wear and asks you to wear it.

I'd wear it because it's very pretty. But only a head-case would spend that much money on A single dress.

That would completely turn me off.

It's not the dress that's bad, but it's the asking me to wear something that you picked out and I had no say in.

I would think you were creepy for picking out my clothes, and would not go on a 3rd date with you, or ever see you again, you control freak!!!!!

Nope, I'd wear my little school girl outfit with my hair up in pig tails. Or maybe patent leather.
