Some animals are very good at picking up human emotions. My cats used to sense sadness, and used to watch but leave me alone - they couldn't understand the reasons why. Dogs are also receptive to human emotions, and sadness may distress them for reasons they don't know. Some will try to make it better by showing affection.

All my animals sense I can remember knew when I was sad. Especially my dogs and horses. But the Lab I have now is unbelievable at knowing when I am sad and knows just how to comfort me. Either by snuggling or by goofing off to get me to laugh. He is perfect at it and he will do it for others as well.

Yes. If i cry, all of my cats and dogs come to console me. My rabbit even shows concern and licks my hand.
When my Dad died, they were very comforting in the depression that followed. Lots of sweet and tender affection. Its the same thing they get from me when they are sad or hurt, so they are very in touch in return.

My cat's know when I'm sick. They'll follow me everywhere and want to sit on me all the time. Gets a bit annoying after a while, but it's cute. I don't know about when I'm sad. I'll have to check next time I'm sad.

Absolutley she can sense if Iam sad and most definatley if Iam sick. She sticks right to me when Iam sick and she'll sleep all day with me. Shes a Jack Russell Terrier....and if your familiar with that breed, its rare you see them sit still and sleep. hahaha Animals have a very keen sense of feelings I beleive. My horse even! We have a better ride when Iam in a good mood and not upset or worrying. He responds accordingly in his training when moods are up and down. Just like people and just like you...if youre in a bad mood, sad, depressed people can sense it without you having to say anything and in turn your preformance is lower in things you do. So all in all, yes...they all can :)

Yes, my cats and my dogs know when I am upset, they always come up to me and they try to cheer me up by being extra loving and they stay with me until they think I am feeling a bit better, although in return you do have to love them to so they will know that they are doing a great job for you at that moment.

My cat knows when I'm sad, in pain or not well. She curls up by my side and doesn't do her usual demanding 'meow' for food or for me to open the door to let her out.
Its the only time she is 'nice' to me really; the rest of the time she is her haughty, selfish cat self!!

My dog can always sense my emotions. He knows to leave me alone when I am angry, knows when I need a friend, will always listen to my problems, and never judge me, and he knows when I need a little extra love and affection. He knows when I am cold, and he warms me, but best of all, he does not steal the covers from me at night.

All the dogs I've ever had have sensed whatever mood I'm in, and the cats too, but they don't show it quite so much.
I think animals use their senses more than most humans.
