I got married to someone who is from Nigeria. I would like to know if it is alright for a Nigerian Woman whom is not married to call herself a wife of a man who is married. Is it wrong or is it just the traditional way of the Nigerian Community?

Is some woman claiming to be married to your husband? I find that very odd, and I don't think that's a cultural thing.

And why don't you ask your husband about the customs? He should know.

There are a lot of domenstic cons played by and with and on Nigerians. She could be his wife, but my guess is that she is someone who wants you and him to pay her to leave you alone - it's a very common form of blackmail and done with adopted babies from there all the time. Families adopt a child and then the "birth father" shows up claiming his rights...and then another one shows up...and another. So you need to ignore this chick - but realize that if he is the one telling you that this is OK, he might have pulled the con on you. There are extended families, but he could be a bigamist who figured you would drop him once he became a citizen and then he could bring his first wife over - who knows?
But grifting is a common form of income over there and playing foreigners for money is considered fair game.

Nigerian culture allows for multiple wives, usually up to three only.

It is very possible for this to be a custom of Nigeria, but your best bet would be to do a search for their customs and see if it comes up.

It doesn't sound at all right to me. Are you sure that this woman and your husband aren't actually married? It does seem like a strange thing for her to say!

I'd be careful if he asks you if he can transfer some of his exiled family's money into your bank account and tells you that in exchange for this he will allow you to utilize some of the funds.

I think it's perfectly fine. Is there a reason why this is in the LBGT section of YA?
