Do you ever need to use chains on a truck with 4wd?

Yes, and in certain areas (at least here in CA) you're not even allowed to drive unless you have them during certain conditions.

You can use studded snow tires too. They work well on ice. But no matter what you use on ice, chains or studded tires, vehicle speed will over-ride the safety of those. Meaning you still need to drive slow.

Yes you can but if it is ALL wheel drive, you need to put chains on front and back or you will damage your transfer case.

If there is ice, then yes.
No vehicle can handle ice.
I have a 4wd and it handles great in snow, but ice............natta.
