Health Problems Are Common
Babies with Down syndrome tend to develop more slowly than other babies do. They may start walking later than other babies. About half are born with heart defects, which means there is something different with the way their hearts developed. Usually, these problems can be corrected by surgery.

Of course they have every right to be born. My godparents adopted 2 children with downs syndrome. The boy they were told would not live beyond the age of 3 as he had serious heart conditions. He is now 30. The girl they were told would never live a normal life. She is now 21 and goes to college and works part time. My mum used to work in an institute for children with health (both mental and physical) problems. She said that the main thing that was wrong with a lot of them was downs syndrome. It was just that years ago a lot of them were put in places like that. It is so sad. They deserve a life like every body else and they were just left for years in places like that. Thank god most people are more accepting these days

I am a christian but not a very good one if I am honest. My views on abortion are not much affected by god. To abort a child because of a mental disability is an awful thought. These disabled people deserve a life and just because they are different and sometimes unable to work does most certainly not mean they shouldn't live. My brother has severe autism and will never work or get married. It can be hard living with him but if you could see him when he's happy and smiling, you would wonder how anyone could not give the most innocent of beings a chance to live

Well I'm pro-choice, and while I think almost any abortion is at least a little immoral, I recognize that it is ultimately the mother's choice. I think that the mother should decide whether she thinks her family can handle a high maintenance baby and act accordingly. If she decides that a down syndrome baby will be too difficult for them to care for and would rather get an abortion than pay all the hospital bills associated with giving birth, then she should be able to abort it.

However, does this mean that down syndrome individuals are worth less than regular babies? No it does not. But they may not be appropriate for some situations.

Of course they should! People with downs syndrome can live a happy and full life, if a slightly shorter one than other babies. They can have minimal health problems - but there's no way of discovering the extent of the health problems until they're born. If you think that downs syndromes babies should be aborted, then you're effectively saying that when you see a disabled person in the street that they should be killed.

Of Course the have the right to live. I have someone close with a baby girl - 6 mos - with down syndrome. They already have 2 more kids, the mom says she's way more special and she's a gift, she loves her unconditionally.

Of course. How would you feel if you terminated a possible down syndrom or other disorder baby, only to find out there was nothing wrong with them?

having a disability is no reason to take away the right to live

Its the mothers choice but me personally I dont think I would be able to bring up that child - this is just my opinion and there will be plenty of people who disagree but we are all different - I would not continue with the pregnancy if I found out during the screening. There is no right or wrong answer every circumstance is different.

A good friend of mine has a down syndrome child. She is the most loving, caring child I have ever met. Yes she has some health concerns, but she is just a joy to be around.

Every child should be allowerd to be born!

I think myself that this is a situation where the parents have to make a very difficult choice. Most parents in the Western world choose to go ahead with the pregnancy. Personally I wouldn't go through with it. But I can only answer for myself, and wouldn't ever like to say what people should or shouldn't choose for their own lives.
