I mean, watching paint dry would be a more productive way to spend time than to be a busybody with regard to the private lives of other people, whether they are celebrities or not. None of my business *what* they do. Whether it's getting pregnant at 16, or getting arrested for something, or even getting married. How BORING!! Why would *anyone* give a flying rat's patoot about such things? Are there really that many people out and about who have NO lives to the extent that they need to get off on busybodyism?

To "sawyer" -- There's a huge difference between wasting time delving into the personal lives of other people, and seeking to understand why any people would do it.

To "Michaelaruth" -- You think I know something about celebrities? You've gotta be kidding! Nothing could be more boring to me! I don't even know most of their names. On the "Today" show, yesterday, they said that Brittany Spears 16-year-old sister had gotten knocked up. Who in his right mind would GIVE a rat's patoot? That's not even newsworthy! And the girl's name? I didn't notice... nor will I EVER care.

BTW -- I have 3 kids (all now very well-adjusted adults), and I raised them to regard the celebrities the same way I do. They never considered them to be role models.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I am so tired of these fools picking apart everything that celebrities do. It's stupid. They have probably done all sorts of things in their lives yet as soon as britney spears cuts her hair or forgets underwear, they are all over her judging and talking trash. The things they've done are hidden. I think secretly people like to degrade celebrities because it makes them feel better about being broke, being married to someone they hate, or otherwise having a sh*tty existence.

That's your opinion and you're entitled to it, but people have been "Busybodying" since the dawn of civilization. Whether it was speculating what the High Priest was doing in his spare time in ancient tribal communities or starting a rumor about the King or Queen (Royalty were the celebrities of society before celebrities as we know them today existed).

Because some people's lives are so boring that they have nothing better to do besides live vicariously through these people. Sad but true that their lives are so boring they have to look up the private affairs in someone else's life. Hell, they could try getting on Yahoo answers and answer people's questions...because...isn't that more productive? ;) I certainly think so.

No, they don't have a life of their own. In older times actors and celebrities were considered the scum of the earth and people didn't even want them in their houses. Now there are so many bubblebrains around they actually worship these pieces of flotsam.

Maybe they are concerned about shielding their children from these pathetic role models who flaunt themselves for the camera every chance they get, who set the price of gym shoes at 160.00/pair, who care more dolphins than people, who drive drunk and expect special treatment when caught, whose face pops at you when log on your computer. Who teach young people its okay to play prof basketball and gamble, to play football and torture dogs and lie about it.

You must not have raised children. Ask the parents of teenagers, or better yet, pre-teens.

Methinks youthinks more about celebs than people I know.

I can't count the times I change channels even when watching the news when some silicone or steroid reconstructed "celeb" invades the airwaves on Fox or CNN.

Speak for yourself, sir, you must live a sheltered life.

It's partly due to adoration and idolation... You become so attached to the celebrity that it sometimes feel as if that their triumphs are your triumphs, share a bit of the glory.

Another reason could be that when we see them fall, some or many of us silently cheer. I mean a fall from grace... "ah... i feel great that that wasn't me."

Why should we isolate ourselves from the rich and famous? First of all they wouldn't have gotten anywhere without our help. To call it borring is all based on your own opinion. To many it is fascinating.
