I see no disadvantage. It's good to know what others think or how others would handle the same situation. And sometimes you are going through something that somebody already went through, so it's good to know how they handled the situation and how it worked out so ...
The best part is the final decision on anything or whatever, remains your prerogative, no harm in listening.
Smile.

Yes I do in fact I love be advised because we all need it every now and then. I either take the advise or I leave it. I have enough faith in myself to know what I need to change compared to the advise that doesn't apply. My best example is what if you were a crackhead prostitute and the people who love you never said anything to you about what you were doing? That would hurt me because the people who are suppose to love me wouldn't think enough of me to give good advise. I always tell my girlfriend about how me and my best friend (RIP) would argue whenever one of us attempted to advise the other. Someone told me years ago "if a person cares about you they will put your well being above your friendship". I believe this means you have to speak up when you see people going down the wrong path. If you don't you care more about yourself than that person who needs you.

That depends on the adviser. I have no problem getting advise from someone that can back up what they are saying. But the ones that just run their mouth with no substantial proof drives me nuts.

Only if I ask for it!! I dont like it when people think its ok to give me advise when I havnt asked them for it. If I ask advise and am given it then I take it onboard.

it depends on what ... if you advise me on how to treat my little brother than i will punch you and if ur a girl who advises me on that subject i will do everything in my power to get back at you .. my brother will NOT grow up to be a brat because i do NOT spoil him .. i love him ...
if you advise me on who to marry i will laugh at you ...
otherwise i don't really care as long as it's good advice ...

I hate to sound like stubborn... but HECK NO!! The best person to know what I need is me. I never ask for advice, but I love to give it if asked. I do my own thing and usually make great decisions. Mixing too many people into your business fogs your judgment, in my opinion.

Depends who's advising me.
A traffic cop "advising" me about speeding - NO.
My ex-wife "advising" me about child support payments - NO.
My boss "advising" me to work on Saturday - NO.
Yahoo! Answers violations email "advising" me about my inappropriate answer to someone's question - NO
A gorgeous young woman "advising" me about what she wants to do for the evening - YES.
So you see, it depends on who's advising me.
