Try for something older and more enlightening. May I suggest the Dao De Chang by Lao Tzu (that will definitely challenge the Western way you have been conditioned to think), The Art of War by Sun Tzu (can be applied to much more than warfare), and the Book of Five Rings by Miyamoto Musashi (reportedly the best sword fighter in Japan at his time). All three will broaden your mind and introduce you to concepts and processes of thought unfamiliar to you.

I just finished an absolutely phenomonel book called "The Greatest Minds and Ideas of All Time." It's written by a man named Will Durant who is a famous historian/philosopher. You'll never look at the world the same way after reading this book.

Recently I really liked Fast Food Nation by Eric Schlosser and The Omnivore's Dilemma by Michael Pollan.

In the past, I have also really enjoyed Sex, Time, and Power by Leonard Shlain, The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins, The Demon-Haunted World by Carl Sagan, Why People Believe Weird Things by Michael Shermer, and The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins. All very interesting books!

Depends on what you are looking for. The books "Cod" and "Salt" by Mark Kurlansky (I think) are good reads about history as they relate to cod and salt. As much about the people and the times as anything else.
