Since that was the bread abd butter of the last GOP
bonanza. The war in Iraq, is what hoodwinked many
naive Americans, into voting for Bush. Well the few
that did anyway..... But no major progress has been
made as far as domestic issues is concerned, typical
for the Repubs. Not surprised. But hey , the good part is
the troop surge has been rather successful, to say the
least. And good, for the soldiers, who need to come
home right now. But I wanna know, will this help the
Republicans get more votes, for the presidential
race ? Given the fact that, the war is no longer the primary
issue for many US citizens, at large. It is the economy,
as it has been said before. Surprise ! Illegal immigration
may even pass this one.... Wow. So what do you think ?
Will troop surge help Republicans gain votes, or is this
an irrelevant issue ? Best answer wins. ~~~

K W. I wish I could agree with you,

Many Americans perceive the war in Iraq as a debacle of the Republicans and they are destined to lose in 2008.

I don't believe it would. The public was told that the troop surge would bring things under more control, allowing the Iraqi government to come together and focus on running a country. The surge helped in calming areas down - however, the Iraqi government cannot work together. Why? Becasue we have different sects - Shia, Sunni, and Kurd. none of them can stand to be in the same room with the other. This is going to be the major hurdle with this whole conflict.

The surge will help the Reps. mainly because of all the Libs. promising that it would not work, and then it worked. As for as the economy, it is doing just fine despite what the news media is telling us. Unemployment is at an all time low, and the stock market is strong. The recession which Bush inherited from Clinton was reversed faster than any other recession in American history.

No, because people against the war are still against the war. They'll change their minds and support it when it's over (maybe). People for the war tout the surge and its success (and it has seen some, more than 'stay the course' ever did). For the most part it won't change anything, and it wasn't meant to gain voter support, it was meant to provide a strategy for the war.

Yes, it will help. I don't understand your comment about 'the few that did anyway' referring to voting for him. I hate to tell you this but more than a "few" voted for him. He won the popular vote...and you can throw all your Deocratic leaders into the "hoodwinked" category too; both Clinton's, Harry Reid, Nancy Pelosi, Ted Kennedy, all initially supported the war. If you would like I can provide some quotes from them for you...EDIT.....Yeah, I didn't think you would be interested in reading the quotes; or the truth.

actaully with the surge has been successful in bringing down causualties (even us lefties are glad for that) l

however last nite even the general in charge of bagdad was saying that the last 2 months the Iraqi government has been in collapse and we need to replace Malaki as leader

however we dont have a mechanism in place to get rid of him legally

therefor our general was expecting things to deteriorate again as our drawdown continues

Nope, too much damage has been done. There are also domestic issues, yet unsolved that are on people's minds too.
