How many women are raped a year in the world?

WAY TO MANY!!!!!
Statistics will vary depending on who does the report. For example, real estate reports will have Money Magazine showing some markets down 15% while US News will have the same markets down 25%. And sometimes it is the other way around. Both can't be true? But we can at least believe the fact that there is a significant decline in home values overall.
And it depends on what facts you are looking for.... some facts are for teenage girls, some show college students, professional women.... then there is date rape, statutory rape, etc.

One out of four women will be sexually assaulted on a college campus. 1

84% of women who were raped knew their assailant. 3
57% of rapes occur on a date. 4
75% of male students and 55% of female students involved in date rape had been drinking or using drugs. 5

Any statistics on this subject will not be reliable because vast majority of women does not report rape to the authorities or to the relatives because they are afraid, ashamed and unfortunately they have fear of the society around them. Only grass root women's organization can be in control of the situation.

That would be a hard number to count. In many places rape isn't reported, or it isn't a crime if the woman isn't "covered properly" or with an escort. (And people think the war is pointless, but we're trying to give these people some basic human rights)
Then there's human trafficking, forced into prostitution...
I think the numbers would make me cry.

The problem with finding an accurate answer is that sexual assault, even in this day and age, is often unreported. Look at what happened that poor girl in the Middle East who was gang raped and was sentenced to 6 months in prison and 200 lashes.

I dont think anyone keeps a count at the world level. you might have to count each country and then add them up.

how should anyone now, its not like anyone keeps a women rape count in their pockets. besides it will vary every time since it depends on which area you are studying.

So many go unreported that you can't get an accurate count. But even just one is too many.
