I've always wondered why there seems to be a need for teachers in the second semester of school. Is it because the teachers quit their jobs? Or the teachers had to leave because of something else, like being pregnant, having to take care of a sick family member, etc.

I'm just wondering since I'm trying to apply for a teaching position.

Some teachers leave early. Our school had two leave already.

Some schools do what is called re-norming. Atthe start of the year they set up the student-teacher ratio and set the classes. Some schools continue to get new enrollment where they simply add to existing classes. Over the few months, this may mean that some teachers classes are too big. If they are allowed to re-norm, they can create new classes and redistribute the students. Often, it leads to another position available... this most often happens in the larger schools.

You are right. People take a leave for different things, people move and have family issues that they need to take care of.
Good Luck

That's right. Plus some teachers are notified that their contracts will not be renewed for next year and they choose not to finish the school year.
