Has a new manager...over zealous little thing. Anyway, she wouldn't allow me to deposit my GOVERNMENT ISSUED PAYROLL check without a 3 day hold on it. I used to work at a bank and I never heard of such thing. She also wouldn't let me cash it and deposit right after.

Is this normal?

My Direct Deposit has not started yet. Now I have to PRAY nothing bounced and I have to go back to the bank AGAIN TODAY. Waste of time, money and energy.

I agree with Mr. G. You are the consumer! You have a choice. Change banks.. (I did when mine wanted to thumb print me!)

Also... they do cash checks without an available balance account all the time:

1) If the issuer of the check has an account at the same bank
2) If the check is from a well known source... i.e. a University, large local employers, government or school system checks (like this case).
3) If the staff recognizes the customer, they will and can bend the rules.
4) Also a "half cash" is done many times.

Leave your bank obviously they do not appreciate you. If your credit is not in good standing and you can't change... Well can you blame the bank for not trusting you?

There's a standard bank practice in regards to certain deposits and amounts. Your exact answer won't be found here but could be found by merely putting in some key words to further research a bank's 3-day hold policies. It will explain the theory.

You need to look at yourself a business woman and right now you are not satisfied with your product so change banks. At most the person should have said if this check bounces then you are liable, which you and I know it wasnt going to bounce. I'm sorry you had to go through this.

If you don't like the service at that bank, there are many others -- you are the consumer!! If you are unhappy, visit another bank, ask friends about theirs, and visit with that bank. If they can provide the service you desire, switch your bank. It is a hassle, but you should not accept service you are not happy with.

*Keep in mind that no bank will cash a check immediately if your account cannot cover it.

You could try going over her head. Either find out who her manager is, or call their telephone banking or customer service line. Ask them to give you a written statement that government issued payroll checks will not be held, or you'll take your business elsewhere.
