Typically politicians wear pants in public - this makes the talk coming from their *ss inaudible. So they compromise by using both sides of their mouth instead.

Theres a farily old saying in DC:
"No matter WHAT you decide on an issue, you will enrage 40% of the people".
Talking out of both sides of your mouth is a typically inexperienced attempt to avoid the above axiom. The new Congressman TRIES to make the right decisions, but both sides may equally compelling cases, being argued by professional debaters (lobbyists, i.e., lawyers) and unlike in a court of law, are only privy to that information which both sides present to him or her: A Senator or whatever cannot go off on their own to gather independant information, to either support or disprove one side's version or the other.
There are no simple answers to ANYTHING which is brought up in Congress, or even just in DC. By the time it gets THERE, it's already a huge issue, at least to the folks back home.

No, Obama isn't speaking out of the two aspects of his mouth. Obama is compromising on his unique place with the intention to confirm cooperation from Republicans. i'm no longer shocked that the belief of compromise for the uncomplicated good may be a distant places concept to conservatives, in spite of the shown fact that. Their egos are too vast to confess that they won't understand each and every thing or have the right answer to each project.

President Clinton would contradict what he said just moments ago all of the time. Hillary was caught doing this in the debate as well though you certainly can't say that about President Bush. Most people complain that he isn't willing to change his mind about things and he's too stuborn. That's far from being a John Kerry flip flopper.
