In your opinion... does The Dear and Departed sound like a watered-down AFI (Decemberunderground era) rip off or an amazing underground band with lots of potential... or maybe a little of both?

Master C - I saw them when they opened for Within Temptation (interesting line-up.. heh) and they were decent live. They had a lot of energy, which is always good at a show.

I think you're right on both counts. They're a dead ringer for AFI and there certainly is potential. I'm still on the fence as to what I think, but I thought the Hometown Hero track sounded pretty good. Like when I first heard AFI back around 1998, this could be a band that goes on to bigger and better things. You just never know.

it sounds like a little of both. Some of the time i think AFI but others im thinking its good. I felt the same way when i heard Aiden - We Sleep Forever. It sounded like the older style of AFI. But yeah The Dear And Departed could have something going here.

In my opinion, they don't sound like AFI. The vocalist sings in monotone I think, which Davey does not at all do. They don't really seem like a band with a lot of potential.

I've listened to them quite a bit. They are playing with Tiger Army in the new year, so I'm going to end up seeing them live. For whatever reason, I don't like listening to them. Yes, they are very watered down. I don't know what it is about them, but I just don't like them. I'll probably utilize their stage time to go grab a Tiger Army shirt or something. I hope they are good live...

NAAH! THEY DONT SOUND LIKE AFI.THEY DONT SEEM LIKE A BAND WITH LOT OF TALENT. AFI IS AN AWESOME TALENTED BAND WHO CANT BE POSIBLY COMPARED WITH THAT ****. AFI ROCKS. NO TRUST!

I wouldn't spend any of my money to listen to them. To me, they sound like every other band that plays that type of music.
