Oh Hell yes... that is funny. Not the arresting part. But if you have ever taught... then you know that is a sweet idea.

Let me be clear, I do NOT think children should be subjected to electric shocks in school.

But I can see this being a perfectly innocent thing that got out of hand. Teacher is teaching a science lesson on electricity, maybe wiring circuits with a small battery and the student asks if that is enough electricity to get a shock. The teacher, knowing it won't do any real damage lets the student try it to find out. Then a bunch of the kids try it in a kind of group dare because the first one did it. Then a parent found out or one of the kids decided to make trouble for the teacher and pow, a story on the world-wide web.... Poor judgment on the teacher's part? You bet. But probably not meant to intentionally harm the kids. Maybe even meant as an object lesson to keep kids from hurting themselves more seriously by messing with stuff that could electrocute them.

I hate stories taken out of context. They can be way worse or way more innocent than they sound.

No - these "creative" punishments can get out of hand - like some teachers who used to sellotape children's mouths up for talking too much or shouting out.
I would however agree with Sue that the cane ( ruler/gym pump for younger children) should be brought back - properly regulated - and then *most* children wouldn't misbehave in class in the first place.

Personally, I think they should bring back the thick, thick, thick 12 inch ruler! I saw it being used many times smacked across the knuckles of kids not behaving. And it was being handled by a nun! Any of us who went to catholic school can remember how brutal those nuns could be!

the electric shock???? noooo!!! are you kidding?!?!?! thats horrible. i think maybe they could carry them or something as long as they get zapped first so they know what its like, just like cops have to go through pepper spray. but i think the teachers should be allowed to cary them in case a student dicides to go crazy on the teacher and starts beating them or somthing.

Tempting thought!

On a bad day we could all imagine doing it I am sure, but to go ahead with it...?

That is sick!

The school will be getting a big law suite if they even did that to my nephews or nieces. That to me is child abuse and I will not allow it.
