..."Are you out of your cotton-picking mind?"? I am sure this happened to my father more than 40 years ago when he was choosing courses for his final exams for his first degree....I was reminded of the story this past weekend. He was asked this question by someone who became a friend/mentor of his...someone I know well!

Actually, yes. It did change a few times. I have always been inclined to follow my heart and pursue a career in the arts and real estate...interesting combo, I know. haha. Well, I've strayed from both because of people asking me if I was crazy, or just telling me I wasn't good enough. I even dropped out of college the first go around because of it. Well, wouldn't you know...I went back to college, got my degree in graphic design, and I just bought my first piece of investment property! So, I may be "out of my cotton picking mind," but I'm much happier than the "normal" folks. :) Had I listened to them, I'd still be sitting in a mediocre life. There's a great book I once read, and funny enough it's a Dr. Suess book. It's called, "Oh the Places You Will Go!" It offers a great inspiration when others put you down. :)

My son's great grandfather in a fit of anger told his best friend, "Go join the Army to grow up and be a man." So Uncle Harold did and he was at Pearl Harbor. The course of Harold's life changed drastically and the lesson of what can be caused by words said in anger have been passed down three generations by both men.

No. I never had anyone say that to me. I wish I had.
Maybe I would have finished University and done something with the degree. I should have gone through for math instead of Education. I would have been happier.

my mom wondered about me wanting to be a nurse. She loved being a stay at home mom and didn't understand me wanting a career...she finally GOT it when she became ill and I cared for her.

It surely has & if nobody asked me to do so then I would have been stuck what I had been doing.
