I'll be honest - it is painful! I don't think anyone will deny that! But it is completely worth every minute of it - and you do forget what the pain is like (otherwise we would all be only children). The nurses will help you through it (and hopefully the baby's father will too). And get the epidural if you think you want it - it is safe and used by many women!
Good luck!

Labor isnt bad. Especially if you just stay calm and pretend you're sleeping. The more calm you are, and the more you can walk quietly the easier and quicker your body can move the baby into position for birth.
It hurts like a really bad period. Unless you're induced, then it hurts like flucking holy hell the entire time, and you have to endure it and deal with it until you're 4cm and can get a spinal or epi.
Transition hurts really really bad, its like one really long contraction that just gets progressively worse for about 5-15 minutes.
After that you can push, and it feels SOOOOO GOOOD to push, it doesnt hurt, its uncomfortable, like when you're constipated and pooping and it hurts inside. And then the baby crowns and it hurts really really realy really bad, and then the head is out, the baby slips right out after the head and the pain is over. That whole part takes maybe 2-4 pushes. From crowning until the head is out.
Labor is painful, but its worth it, and its honestly NOT THAT BAD, you'll see. In a couple months you'll look back at it and realize you'd do it again for another baby.

The pain is gradual while quick (for the most part). I had my first baby at 16. It was scary but with all the support I had. I was just ready to deliver. When you get there you really don't think of it being scary. It isn't easy... but its probably the best experience you will ever go through in your life.

Pray to the goddess of DRUGS!!!! Natural childbirth is F***en HELL!! It was like being split in two and no matter how bad it hurt...it could still get worse. But as long as you know that you're going to get some kind of medication I wouldn't worry too much since it's not a lot of pain at first...and by the time the heavy pain comes you'll be taken care of. Make sure there is someone with you at all times...like your mom. It may not seem like it but she will understand your pain better then anyone else would and somehow that understanding does help.

It starts off feeling like really bad menstrual cramps. Then the drugs kicked in.
Hooray for modern medicine.
