Yes, I mean on the internet. I've tried a chatroom but it was like a meat market and I left as quickly as I entered. I think I'm normal in wanting to chat, get to know people and have some laughs. Not looking for a relationship other than friendship as I'm kind of stuck here in a caregiver role and not looking to leave.
So, basically asking for links/sites where there are other normal, lonely (but not desperate) people out there who are closer to my age.
I suppose I have to mention here, to avoid the wrong sites, that I'm not looking for cybersex. Does such a place exist? Am I a dreamer?

There's a reason that it's a meat market...life's taken on a different texture at this stage in the journey than has been apparent at any other time, but we can talk about that another time.
We talk about all kinds of things here...I'm sure you'll find some things to your liking and others that will turn you off. But there are many categories to choose from, and many diverse people to get a variety of points of view.
(Here's an interesting factual oddity: A guy might be decent but he doesn't want to be referred to as "decent" as it's an invitation to mistreatment and disrespect.)

you could try plentyoffish.com its free and when you sign up you can opt to get replies from just email friends, there are other things as well but these you can just cross off so these sorts of people don't contact you or you yourself can search through the members and message someone you think maybe a decent bloke. hope this helps

Sure, some places like you want to see exist. Like boomertowne.com, or eon.com. Of course, there are other independent sites, but those are the ones you have to decide on.

Don gave the same answer as I was going to give. They have forums too but your best bet would be to list yourself as searching for friends. Unfortunately there are still going to be idiots who are going to contact you looking for sex so be prepared for that. Good luck.
