Their flag is a variation of the flag of the United Kingdom, because, as you might know, it was once a British colony, and it is still part of the Commonwealth-I think. Their national colours are just that. They chose two colors that they felt represented them. What they represent, well, your guess is as good as mine. Yellow for the sand, maybe the desert, and green for the stuff kowalas eat(just kidding).

We are working on changing it, so we can have a new green and gold flag. With the change of Government, the republic debate will be back on the agenda and it will be pushed forward.
They will draft a better model than John Howard presented. We will become a republic and get a new flag, which will be green and gold.
