it's stupid i mean they can't really want equality.. people aren't equal. there'd be mayhem, disabled ppl would be made to walk up stairs and pregnant and old ppl would have to stand on the bus. women would be on the front line and men would be giving birth...... when will people learn that us not being equal is a good thing!

You're getting things confused. There is a difference between equality and everyone being the same. Wanting equality means wanting to have the same rights as others, being treated with the same respect as others and having equal opportunity as others etc. It doesn't mean changing into something you're not. Of course men won't give birth and paralyzed people won't walk up stairs. They can still be treated as equals though, for example by fathers having equal custody over their children as mothers and by making public places accessible for those who need a wheelchair.

Equality IS a good thing. Would you think it's fair that a woman gets paid less for doing as much work (and the same job) as a male peer, just because she's a woman? Would you think it's fair that a person couldn't get a job because they're in a wheelchair, despite them being perfectly capable of doing that particular job? I want equality so that there won't be such discrimination and inequality.

Manners won't disappear. I'd still give up my seat on the bus to a person who seems to need it more than I, even though we paid equally much for the tickets.

You must be an elitist, and I don't say this because I'm trying to be rude. I'm making an observation. Allow me to explain.

Elitists rarely see themselves as encouraging oppression. When you suggest that people who are disabled are not "equals" with those who are not disabled, you suggest that their disability should be part of the criteria that justifies inequalty. Because someone can't walk, does that now mean this person is a "lesser" human being? If you are an elitist, you will try to defend that yes the person lacks a capability other human beings have. However, you have no real evidence to support the person is "less" human because your system is one utterly based on values, not real facts. There are countless numbers of human qualities all people possess whether they are disabled or not, and the disability does not make the person less human or less equal. The simplistic notion that you can simply add up the disabilities two people have and then determine who is less equal by determining whose disabilty score is higher is a function of scientific thinking. If you argue in the extreme that the most dysfunctional person (e.g., wheelchair bound elderly person) can't possibly be "equal" to someone who is highly functional (e.g., athlete) it would only be relevant to a specific behavioral capability (e.g., play basketball), but that does not negate that the wheelchair bound person's IQ might be way above that of the athlete, thus making the athlete less "equal" than the wheelchair bound person.

Are YOU going to be the person who determines what the criteria is for who is equal to whom (i.e., the ability to play basketball is more important than IQ or vice versa)? If you think you should be the person who determines the criteria by which people are equal, then you are indeed an elitist and have no clue that you are encouraging oppression.

equality is just about respecting each other regardless of our differences in colour,or gender and ur example of the old having to stand in the bus isn't relevant people give up their seats to old people because morally its the right thing to do.
if women hadn't fought for equality we wouldn't be able to have jobs or work in what are assumed jobs for "men" so,the old people thing..?

I think you're misunderstanding the term. People don't want to be discriminated for things like race, sex and other reasons out of their control. It's just a term for fairly treating people...
