check out this link...it addresses that issue in depth. Also, you should include the error code for it, so I can tell you exactly what is causing it.

My guess is bad memory. If the error code you get is:
STOP: 0x0000000a then I am right. you will need new memory. If the error code is something else, could be running hot...get a better cpu heatsink/fan. Otherwise, could be norton or mcafee or a hardware conflict.

Your windows installation needs repair. Place the original windows CD in the CD ROM and boot up the computer. Keep
F8 key depressed and it will ask you the boot source. Select CD ROM. When windows start select repair installation and let it correct the installation. If you get a screen then write /?
and press enter. Then write chkdsk /f and press enter.
Hopefully it will repair the installation. Otherwise Choose reinstall window in the same directory and drive as before.
You will get a new installation which will run trouble free. But you will have to reinstall the programs like Office etc.

Try updating ALL your drivers. Graphics, DirectX, Sound, etc.
And try to pin it to a specific item. I know with Vista you can bring up the Problems and Solutions and it'll list what exactly made it crash. Not sure about other OS's though.
Good luck! ^__^
