I like the name Opie from Andy Griffth show, what does it mean though?

Oliver Paul, hence O.P. shortened to Opie, probably. Interesting question, I wonder if anyone really knows? Gave you a star anyway.

Why does it need to have a meaning.

I once knew a guy called D.L. The letters didn't stand for anything else-weren't his initials or anything. His name sounded like "Deyell"

Opie could be a version of "O.P." which could be Opie's initials. Maybe his name is Oswald Putman...

It can also be a last name, lots of Irish folk shorten their names like that..... ex. O'Connell becomes OC, O'Pella becomes OP, etc.
