I'm considering putting a second gig of Ram into my computer, I mainly play computer games and listen to music with occasionally multi windows and mp3 player up, the games I do play atm are.

Crysis, World of warcraft, Sims 2, Guitar Hero 3, Doom 3, and Half Life 2.

My Question is will I see a performance increase with 2 gigs of ram in my system as opposed to my current setup.

Athlon 64 3700
1 gig of Ram PC 3200
80 gig HD
XFX Geforce 8800 GTS 320 ram

Some, but not much and here's why.

If you close all programs before starting your game, you will get better performance. If you scan for Spyware, and remove these threats, you will see better performance.

Basically, if you check your CPU and RAM usage in the Task Manager before starting the game, it should be fairly low. KILL some user based processes if you see CPU usage.

If you want more RAM, then check your system with the SCAN TOOL at Crucial.com

Yes, in a Windows computer, the best thing you can possibly do for a gaming environment (other than make sure you have a fast graphics card) is to add RAM to the computer. The more RAM you add, the "faster" your Windows computer will appear to run. This is because the more RAM that is available to the computer, the greater the amount of storage used in RAM (vs. HDD) is utilized by Windows.

going on increasing RAM will do no good.by upgrading RAM. It certainly won't speed up "downloading music or videos or stuff like that" as downloaded files go directly to your Hard Disk store.
If you are using Windows XP then the overall speed of most everything will increase as 256mg is too little based on my experience. That said, your ISP should be your primary focus on increasing download speeds and I do not think adding RAM will increase your download speeds to where a difference could be detected
Just a few years ago, 16MB or 32MB of RAM were adequate for most PCs, but you need 64MB or even 128MB these days to get optimum performance with a typical set of Windows 98 applications
Plentiful RAM is even more important if you use Windows 2000 Professional. People who process images, edit video, or perform other graphics-intensive work on their PCs may need up to 384MB of RAM.

Yes, it won't be as drastic as going from 512MB to 1GB but you will see a slight increase in performance. You can get faster RAM and mix it if you wanted to, but make sure it's the same type ie. DDR, DDR2 etc. your hard drive is a tad small and may not be as fast as some of the newer hard drives and that can slow down your computing, so you may want to look at new hard drives after you get the new RAM. But go to 2GB RAM it's inexpensive and worth the upgrade.

doubtful you will notice any difference, its not just the amount of memory a gamer will take into consideration but the speed and latency of the memory they do use.
If your on budget value ram i highly suggest trying out some nice pc3200 / 2-2-2-5 timing memory (1gb kit) or
pc4000 / 2.5-3-3-7 timing memory (1gb kit)

thats what going to enable you to see a difference in the gaming ability of your present setup (note : my old 3700 held steady just under 3ghz)

Yes, as long as you get the right RAM for your motherboard and existing RAM.

And ensure you do all the regular maintenance such as defragging, anti-malware, etc.
