The scene I remember is where he is telling her that she would not be inheriting all his and her mothers land . Simply because he wouldn't want to cheat her and her new husband out of all the things that he and her mother had gone through to achieve it.

you sure it his daughter there a similiar scene in True Grit where he tries to pass off the offer of being buried in her family plot then agian it might be something im thinking of else
