In 1972, Richard Nixon said we would acheive energy independence by 1980. Forgive me if I'm not impressed. Bush agreed to this bill only when the Democrats removed the repeal of several tax breaks for oil companies. All of the goals are 6-12 years off, after most of the lawmakers who proposed them have retired.

I hardly think that he will be remembered as the President that fought our energy problem. I guarantee that if you ask the question in yahoo answers now or 10 years from now, *What in history is George Bush Jr. known for* it will not be for this reason. More likely he will be remembered as one of our weakest and for going to war with Iraq due to weapons of mass destruction which were never discovered.

Unfortunately his vice president has been busy for the last seven years making sure that corporations maximize profits at the expense of the environment.
This administration will be noted by History as the one that had to expand executive privilege and secrecy in order to cover up their relationships with the energy companies that stood to make the most profit.

Yeah, right. He'll be the president who gouged us all at the pump while blowing all of our tax money on a meaningless war while the country continued to flirt with recession. It's also funny that he waits until the end of his presidency to do this. I guess he didn't want to anger Exxon-Mobil, his biggest campaign donor. What does that tell you?
Worst president EVER. Well, at least since his father.

Sorry.........it doesn't count ..........what he does after 7 years of signing laws to make his oil friends rich. It's too late and he's just doing it because the pressure to do something at all is just too great for him to ignore it.
In other words.........too little too late.

Well let's see, he signs a bill that will require increased fuel efficiency just when we run out of oil. What a sacrifice, and he won't be alive then.

Yes we are lucky. President Bush has been working very hard to find a viable solution to a problem. This is one small step that will further secure his place in history as one of the better Presidents we have ever elected.
