Before rain can occur clouds have to form that occurs when the dew point reaches the LCL (lifting condensation level) producing clouds thats the beginning of the process. The scientific name and explanation of how rain forms is called the Bergeron Process. Rain will grow large enough to fall and hit other rain droplets on the way down and grow larger this is called collision coalescence process. When clouds can no longer hold the rain it falls and because of friction (air) if breaks up in to different sizes between 1-5 mm. Drizzle and mist is smaller then that Drizzle is from about .5mm-.9mm and mist is smaller then .5mm.

How rain is formed
Rain plays a role in the hydrologic cycle in which moisture from the oceans evaporates, condenses into drops, precipitates (falls) from the sky, and eventually returns to the ocean via rivers and streams to repeat the cycle again. The water vapor from plant respiration also contributes to the moisture in the atmosphere.

A major scientific explanation of how rain forms and falls is called the Bergeron process. More recent research points to the influence of Cloud condensation nuclei released as the result of biological processes.

Water vapor in the air condenses to from droplets which collide and form drops and then you have rain.

Basically water evaporates into the air and as the air rises it cools which means the air at higher altitude can hold less water vapor. When the amount of water vapor exceed the airs ability to contain it the water starts to condense and form into rain.

It the same basic thing that happen to a cool glass of lemonade on a hot sticky summer day. the air is cooled and the water in the air condenses on the cool surface.

Water evaporates from oceans and water bodies and also from land (leaves of plants).Wind and air move this water vapour through the atmosphere. The vapour cools and forms the clouds(cluster). Then, the cloud bursts out under its pressure and falls as rain or snow mostly over tjhe oceans and partly over the land.

Rain, snow or hail occur when water droplets or ice crystals in a cloud grow large and heavy enough to fall to earth.

Sun evaporates water making it water vapor in a cloud and when the cloud becomes to heavy, the cloud drops the rain and the clouds disappear.
