e.g should my bank give me this information e.g names address goods where sent to?

The bank may not know, but generally they will send you a statement with detail of the businesses your card was used at.
My bank called me within hours of suspicious use and the folks only wound up charging around $2500. Since the card was insured, I didn't have to pay any of it, but I still had to do the paperwork. The bank was VERY helpful and gave me as much information as they had themselves. They really want to catch these people as it costs them millions each year. But sometimes the criminals don't have your card, just your number or they've just doctored a card that turned out to be your number. Retailers don't pay nearly enough attention and untrained clerks rarely check ID during a credit card sale.

under the data protection laws the banks cannot give you this information

the bank may or may not have the data but they will assist you in not getting ripped off!!!

If you tell them it was used fraudulantly they will find out for you.

if you report it promptly - you won't owe any of the money anyway, so don't worry about it
