I have been here for almost 3 years and I know our landlord doesn't like us because we sell cars sometimes and ignore all of our neighbors in this apartment.
Recently, we got some very loud neighbors below us (loud late at night) and he doesn't seem to care about our complaints or police calls.
Could he have "hired" them to get rid of us??

Sorry If I say this to you but I must. Your landlord is a
"smartass". Yes, I totally think that he hired those guys to make you leave his apartment. Here are my options for you

- If you are planning to move out of the apartment then
before you leave, confront the landlord and ask him
if you hired those " rentbreakers" to move you out.
If he says yes then ask him why? If he says no then just
tell him that the jig is up and that we know you're lying.
* I don't think that it is really necesscary to do that just yet.
First of all you need to meet up with the neighbours living below you and get along with them. If they are friendly and if somehow you can negotiate with them to keep their volume of noise down then it appears that your landlord didn't really hire anything against you. If they are friendly towards you but still annoys you then yup they're rentbreakers. If they refuse to befriend with you and annoy you then they're rentbreakers.

If you can't negotiate with the noisy neighbours then it's best to negotiate with your landlord. Just confront your landlord and ask him if he likes you or not. He may lie to you and say yes...don't let him lie and just tell him to tell the truth. He will tell you the reason why he doesn't like you. You need to find a way to negotiate with your landlord so that he won't drive you out of the apartment. It's best to just find a better apartment or house that you can live in and sell your cars. I think that you neighbours and your landlords are ganging up on you.
Why are you selling cars around the area where other people live very close to? Don't you think that annoys your neighbours? They're just annoying you back.

Try to negotiate or befriend your neighbours and don't ignore them. They may be able to tell you that selling cars around your apartment is bad.

No need to hire 'rentbreakers'. If he wanted you out he could just give you 30 days written notice that you had to leave. When your lease expires you go directly to a month-to-month agreement that either party can end with 30 days notice. If he wanted you to move he would just give you 30 days written notice.

Don't you think that would be easier than hiring someone to live in the apartment below you to agitate you to get out? He probably didn't do a good job of screening those tenants and they are inconsiderate.

good luck!

There is no such thing, however, the reason the landlord doesn't care about the noise is probably because he doesn't care for you continuing your lease.

All you can do is keep calling the police or move when your lease is up.

He is under no legal obligation to renew you.

Please don't be silly. Then he would be irritating his other tenants too.
