Try making a website on Googlepages. It has a built in website builder and a photo editor

I have a website constructed using only text editors. I learned by reading an HTML primer and looking at other pages (if you right click a page, you can View Page Source). It isn't smart, here's index.htm
--------------

The Home Page

Alan's Web Site

This website may not be pretty, but hopefully functional. It may improve as my web design skills develop (if they do...). Friends will recognise my 'function before form' way of doing things. No webpage editor software was harmed (or even used) in the preperation of this website (does it show...?)

Pictures are best viewed using at least 1024 x 768 screen size and full screen view in your browser. That way you can read the description on the portrait (tall) pictures without the need to scroll. Press F11 to switch Internet Explorer in and out of full screen mode.

There are a few online website builders such as Yahoo!Geocities, freewebs and Piczo. They are very easy to use and all 3 listed are free.

Yep. Learn HTML and use notepad or any text editor, and you will need a FTP client.
