the eggs are in the ovaries which is part of a womans body. Every month the body releases one of these eggs so that it can be fertilized by sperm which comes from the man this creates a fetus which becomes a baby, this is called ovulation. if the egg is fertilized it attatches itself to the uterus which is another part of the womans body. if the egg is not fertilized then it is expelled from the body and the lining of the uterus is expelled this is what comes out as blood during a womans period.

Ovulation is the release of a single, mature egg from the ovarian follicle. The human ovary produces a multitude of ova during the course of a month, largest of which is expelled into the pelvic cavity and swept into the Fallopian tube. Ovulation does not follow a regular pattern between ovaries each cycle and which ovary releases the egg is fairly arbitrary. Once released, the egg is capable of being fertilized for 12 to 24 hours before it begins to disintegrate. If the released ovum or egg is fertilized and successfully implants, it results in pregnancy.
If the egg is not fertilized, it is passed from the reproductive tract during menstrual bleeding, which starts about two weeks after ovulation. Occasionally, cycles occur in which an egg is not released; these are called anovulatory cycles. Note that you can get your period even though you are not ovulating. Your ability to ovulate can vary from month to month.

period is one name for the monthly bleeding or menstrual cycle of reproductive aged women. The period happens because pregnancy did not happen and the lining of the uterus, which got thick with blood to prepare for pregnancy, is lost because it is not needed. Because of the bleeding the lining becomes thin and needs to be repaired by the body. More hormones will make the lining thick to prepare again to become pregnant. The whole point of having periods is to be able to get pregnant. Blood and tissue build up in the inside of the uterus to get ready for pregnancy. If pregnancy does not happen then the hormones drop and bleeding begins.

Ovulation normally happens from CD 10 to CD 21. Ovulation that happens regularly after CD 21 is not considered normal. That does not mean you cannot get pregnant with late ovulation. Women get pregnant all the time even when they ovulate late. But your chances of getting pregnant are decreased significantly when you ovulate late.

The corpus luteum phase is the time between ovulation and the next menstrual period. If it's often less than 12 days then there may be a problem and your doctor should do some further testing

Hope this helps~

Ovulation is not a period. A period is when the uterine lining sheds. Ovulation is when the ovary releases the egg - it typically happens 8 - 16 days before a woman gets her period.
