I'd have to go with model railroading... http://www.greatesthobby.com/

I've been involved, off and on, since 1974 when my lil brother and I got an HO set for Christmas. My Dad and older brother really started it out, but in later years, we all worked together.

We built many buildings from my Dad's photos of mining operations in his hometown of Phillipsburg, Montana. As I got older and was seriously into plastic models and dioramas, I started remodeling the railroad scenery.

Back in 2002, after I'd left the Navy and moved off my sailboat, I did a Christmas Railroad display for a friend's store in HO scale... and got the "bug" again. I took up graph-paper, pencil and lots of erasers... and started planning to build a layout in the bedroom of my apartment. After MANY ideas, much research, and visits to several local clubs, I started construction on my N-scale layout.

I tend to put in an hour or 30 minutes a day working on little projects. I CAN run my railroad now, and just spend my time adding little details.

Completing your education is far more important than your hobby. If you can find a way to keep pursuing your hobby without affecting your life goals, then keep it up. But if you don't have time for both right now, go ahead and put the dancing on hold.

The best hobby would probably be something that's cheap to maintain - like if your collecting stuff, collect something that you like but not try to collect things that are too expensive. Also do something that can entertain you as well - sometimes just collecting items won't give you as much satisfaction as actually doing something like with your hands. I collect foreign coins and currency but I can't ever do anything with them besides look at them and after awhile it's not really fun to keep going through them. My favorite hobbies are something that I create with my hands like woodworking, painting, drawing, knitting, gardening, animation, etc. Stuff that I can spend an amount of time on, but gives me a physical satisfaction as well after I'm finished. Plus giving the project away as a gift is always satisfying.

As a model railroader for over a half century, I strongly recommend it; it IS the world's greatest hobby. There are clubs in most cities where you can go for help and advice, and dozens of Yahoo groups dedicated to the various aspects of the hobby. I co-own a few of them myself. Along the way, you will learn at least a few basics of carpentry, electricity, painting, etc. Note that these are all skills you can use fixing/making things at home. It is an 'at your own pace' hobby, and with a little patience and imagination, can also be relatively inexpensive.

the best hobby to pursue is something you can afford and have interest in.

I love to listen to music, watching movie/ TV shows so that I joined Netflix. I love to knit, you can do so many things with that. I saw go to a hobby store like hobby lobby,, or Michael's and walk around..... but then there are things like model trains that can be awesome fun (or so my dad said- when he worked with HO scale trains). But you have to go on what you want to put into the hobby, how much do you have to continue to buying supplies, and how much you time you have and how much time the hobby needs.

My friend's hobby is insects and creepy crawly things, and join a club that has was for tarantulas.

Pop bonsai; cultivating miniature plants into modern living sculptures. A very challenging pursuit because you need to know a fair bit of science( about plants) and the visual arts in order to produce a good piece of pop bonsai. If you like pottery, you can make your own pots to create the pop feel for your bonsai.
