If Dell say no it is it. in case you purchase XP it's going to be a waste of time and funds. you will get no longer something yet worry. Vista is the default outfitted into your Dell laptop. As reported in a prior answer in case you wanted XP you need to have reported that actuality once you acquire it first day. Vista will flow in on magnificent of XP it is an improve. on the different hand XP over Vista is a DOWNGRADE and Microsoft do no longer cater for Downgrades. Sorry approximately that. in case you have funds to throw away supply it a flow yet do no longer say weren't warned. Cheers and good success.

You need the Compaq CD. At best the Dell CD will ID your machine and tell you it's not a Dell and stop, at worst it will install and all the drivers will be horribly wrong.

Try it, as long as you have the Product key for the dell Win xp cd. But be mindful that it may void the warranty on your compaq.
