Our house stays locked, whether we are home or not. Windows are only opened if a room is occupied and we are awake. We might leave a door unlocked if we are outside, but if the door is out of our line of sight, then it is locked and we carry a key. We will soon be re-installing motion sensor lights all around the house. We had them for many years, but the fixtures are old and no longer work. The worst we've had happen at our house is car break-ins, or attempts, 3 times over the last 26 years.

I realize that larger towns and cities typically have more incidents of crime; but that doesn't mean that safe neighborhoods or small towns never have crimes. I always wonder about people who believe that crime will never happen in their area because good neighborhoods and small towns are not immune crime, even if it is far less frequent, guess I fear a false sense of security....

It's fairly secure. I sleep with a few windows open a bit and I usually lock the doors at night. I have left doors unlocked if I'm just running around the corner. My dog is really good at barking at strangers, but I'm sure if they offered her a treat she would let them inside. I live in a small town and the crime rate is very low.

Locks only keep the good guys out. I have a six foot fence around my entire property that is locked. Once I pull into my garage, you cannot tell if I am home. I keep all my door and windows locked when I am gone, but I had someone cut my chain length fence to steel a ladder out of my storeage shed.

Whether home or away, night or day, my top deadlock and my bottom lock are ALWAYS locked. I live in an condo...and on the 3rd floor..In good weather my windows may be open, but at night I close the ones in the front of house and only have one partially open in my bedroom.

unfortunately i have grown up to be wary of everyone! (cept family and friends)
i am always paranoid about locking up all doors/windows
I have had my home broken into while my dad was at home!
while living on the main road we even had a bullet shot through the window...
other instances have been $ stolen from the car while we were in the backyard... underwear taken from lines. the stories go on.
this is a sad society we live in!

As secure as possible. Right now we're in a 4 unit apartment building. We all have locks, etc. but if someone is intent on getting into your home, they'll find a way. I prefer to put my trust in God to watch out over me.

It is never going to be completely secure no matter what we do. We lock the doors and hope for the best. I am a very light sleeper and I won't tell you what is under my bed. let them come.

I live in a small town in Ohio, I don't lock my doors, usually even if I go somewhere for short while. But I do if its going to be for a long time, and when I go to bed at night.

I just got new doors, and when you twist the handle up 4 bolts shoot across, nice and secure now, but I live in a good area so hopefully they won't be put to the test.

My neighborhood is very safe and I have friends who leave their doors open and unlocked all night!

However, as for me, having grown up in New York City..........I lock, double lock, dead bolt, and check the locks twice everynight! Why temp fate?
