i think being unique is great, as i want names like that myself. you dont want your daughter having a regular name on her school bag and seeing a few others with the same name. my name is common and its irritating. chanterelle is different, and sweet. i wouldnt have thought of that myself. i work with a girl names zita, and people are saying your name is made up or some mushroom.. oh my..
i think you should do what you heart said to do. and dont take notice of the bad comments posted here for your question..
chanterelle, its a beautiful name :)

Chanterelle is a kind of mushroom so no, I would never consider naming my baby that. They are quite nice mushrooms...but mushrooms all the same - it is all I associate the name with (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chanterelle )

No, it's a kind of fungus (mushroom). If you want a plant name, go with flowers like Lily, Iris, Rose, etc. If you like the sound of Chanterelle, go with Chantal or Charlotte.

Isn't this the name of a type of mushroom?

No. It's silly.

Try Charlotte, Elle, or Tara; all of which are similar to that name.

Chantell or Shantal is better. I think people are going to mix it up with that extra "er" in there.
